Proficiency Requirements 2007-2008
English Proficiency
English proficiency is a requirement for graduation. All students
are advised to work continuously until the requirement is met. Proficiency
is established by earning a "C" or better, or receiving
advanced standing credit, in all required English courses in the
ChE curriculum (English 1001 and 2000).
Basic Science and Mathematical Proficiency
The College of Engineering requires students to earn a "C"
grade in Math 1550, Math 1552, and Physics 2101 (or the honors equivalents
Math 1551, Math 1553, and Physics 1201) before enrolling in any
course offered by any department in the College numbered above 2999
(except PETE 3025 may be taken).
The Department of Chemical Engineering requires a grade of "C"
or better in each of the basic sciences preparatory courses completed
B CHEM 1201 and 1202; PHYS 2101 and 2102; MATH 1550, 1552, and 2090
- before students may register for any chemical engineering course
other than CHE 2160 and 2171.
Note that the "C" grade requirements listed above are
more rigorous than the "D" grade required to satisfy the
prerequisite requirements for individual ChE courses (see below).
