Dr. Mike Benton Receives Worley Professor of Excellence Award

BATON ROUGE – Dr. Mike Benton has been named the recipient of the Worley Professor
of Excellence Award. Dr. Benton recognition came during LSU’s Women’s Basketball game
against Northwestern State in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center and was presented
by John Viccellio, Worley Baton Rouge Director, Project Management and Carole Walker,
Senior Associate Director for Women’s Basketball at the Cox Communications Academic

LSU Chemical Engineering Faculty Receive Patent for Oil Spill Management Technology

BATON ROUGE, LA – LSU Chemical Engineering Associate Professor Bhuvnesh Bharti and
his former graduate student Jin Gyun Lee have been issued a patent for their technology
which utilizes lignin nanoparticles to provide an eco-friendly method for oil spill
cleanup. It’s the first patent awarded to an LSU College of Engineering faculty this

LSU-Led Team Wins $160M NSF Engines Grant

BATON ROUGE, LA – A statewide effort led by LSU with more than 50 public and private
partners has won the largest grant ever awarded by the U.S. National Science Foundation
– up to $160 million over the next 10 years. The NSF Engines grant will support Louisiana’s
energy industry, create jobs in the energy sector, develop innovative solutions to
energy challenges and help train the world’s energy workforce. Read more
A Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering (BS in ChE) from LSU provides an opportunity
to apply the fundamentals of chemical engineering to design, install, and operate
complete processes for the efficient production of materials and tailor the properties
of materials for specific applications.
The Cain Department of Chemical Engineering offers both a Master of Science in Chemical
Engineering and a Doctor of Philosophy in Chemical Engineering. Students should have
either a bachelor's degree from an accredited chemical engineering department or equivalent
preparation in a department whose curriculum closely corresponds to chemical engineering.
